  Simple words in Mentu Land Dayak have one, two, three or four syllables; the last syllable of a polysyllabic word behaves in the same way as as the only syllable in a monosyllabic word and phonetically is stressed. Trisyllables are mostly formed by prefixation or infixation of a disyllabic root. One- and four syllable words are rare. In polysyllabic words the first syllable allows more vowel contrasts than any word-medial syllables and may be considered to have secondary stress (not indicated).
