  Word stress is generally on the penultimate syllable of multisyllabic roots. However, if the penultimate vowel is a mid front lax vowel /E/ and the final vowel is other than /E/, the stress falls on the ultimate syllable. Word stress is not affected by affixation. (Whisler 1992)
