148: Stems and suffixes are either marked or unmarked for stress. If a stem is combined with a suffix: assign the stress if it is indicated as only one, if there are two stresses take the stress of the stem, when no stresses are present stress is assigned to the first syllable of the stem. Stems may require the stress to be on the suffix (Hamilton 1980:148)
