  There are many exceptions.
565: In two syllable words of all light syllables, the first is stressed. If the first has a low tone and the second a high tone, both are prominent. If there is a heavy syllable in the word it carries the stress. Words with two heavy syllables have two equal stresses. Words of three or more syllables have penultimate stress unless there is a heavy syllable present. (Huttar & Huttar 1994:565)
