  The Bagvalal word has a rather peculiar organisation, exemplifying a transition from a non-stress to a stress system. There are three classes of words; words with a strong prominence (normal stress), words with a less pronounced prominence (weak stress) and words with no prominence at all (completely unstressed). The difference in prominence is felt clearly when minimal pairs are compared. In words with strong prominence the stress may fall on any syllable, in words with weak prominence the stress is usually oriented towards the right edge. It falls either on the final heavy syllable or on the prefinal one when the final one is light. Words without any prominence receive a slight intensification of the initial syllable when they occur in isolation.. (Kodzasov forthcoming)
