  Stress is not phonemic in this language. It occurs on the penultimate syllable of multisyllabic roots. Stress occurs consistently on the penultimate syllable of prefixed and infixed forms. In prefixed monosyllabic roots stress does not occur on the root, rather it occurs on the penultimate syllable of the prefixed form. In prefixed multisyllabic rots stress occurs on the penultimate syllable of the prefixed form. A secondary stress occurs on the second syllable to the left of the main stressed syllable. Stress occurs on the antepenultimate syllable of the suffixed form when the suffix is one syllable. When the suffix consists of two syllables the stress occurs on the penultimate syllable of the suffixed form.. (Christensen & Christensen 1992)
