30: Stress all long vowels and closed first syllables. Also stress the even numbered syllables in a light syllable string. Remaining unstressed syllables that are followed by a heavy syllable are stressed. Final syllables are unstressed. All stresses are equally prominent. The difference between underlyingly long vowels and vowels that are lengthened by iambic lengthening can be deduced from the stress on the preceding syllable in the first case, if that syllable is light the first consonant of the heavy syllable becomes a geminate..
