  Norwegian stress, like English and Dutch, tends to be towards the right edge of the word. Stress is final on superheavy syllables. A moraic trochee is built at or near the right edge of the word. This accounts for penultimate stress when the final syllable is monomoraic. Assuming that coda consonants can be moraic in Norwegian, a final VC syllable is bimoraic and can bear a moraic trochee. The absence of final stress in words with a final VC syllable shows that Norwegian, like English and Dutch, prohibits absolute word-final stress. Hence, a form with final CVC has penultimate stress if the penult can bear a moraic trochee, else stress is antepenultimate. (Rice forthcoming)
