  In Assyrian, stress is expiratory and normally is placed on the penultimate. It is not shifted in verb suffixation (i.e. is goes to the newly formed penultimate). Stress often affects the quality and length of vowels; it may cause the ommission of vowels and, at times, of entire syllables. (Tsereteli 1978)
