9:
Primary or heavy stress occurs on the last vowel of the stem, provided that the word has no affixes after the stem. If there is an affix after the stem, and this affix contains a vowel, there is secondary or medium stress on the last vowel of the stem and also on the vowel of the affix. Affixes occurring before the stem and containing a vowel have medium stress; and the final vowel of the stem has heavy stress. If the utterance contains more than one word, the stress is reduced slightly on all vowels, except those in the final word. (Applegate 1958:9)
