Syllables heavy (CVV, CVC) or light (CV). In words with only light syllables, stress is initial. Final CVC syllables count as light, final CVVC as heavy. If the word contains a heavy syllable, it gets stress. If it contains more than one heavy syllable, the rightmost of those gets the stress. (Armbruster 1960:95)
